On a wet Sunday the 9th December the above Waka named Te Hau o Te Aroha was launched at Forest Lakes. This waka seats 24 people and I had the priviledge of being on it's maiden voyage on a calm Forest lake. The Kaihoe waka course is being run by Patumakuku Limited an Education Service Provider from Ohau on behalf of Te Wananga o Aotearoa. The course goes for one weekend per month for ten months with the bulk of the students coming from Ngati WehiWehi and Ngati Tukorehe marae's.
